Nintendo Working to Make it Easier for Indie Devs to Release Games on the Nintendo Switch
Nintendo wants to make it easier for Indies to release their games on it
Arguably the biggest problem with one of Nintendo’s most disappointing console the Wii U was its lack of third-party support. Only one-third party released more than two games on the Nintendo Wii U and that was Ubisoft but none of the games got updated as frequently as the versions on the other consoles and they had missing content for example Watch Dogs on the Wii U had no free roam mode in the online mode. The only games that gamers were available to play were Ubisoft’s or Nintendo’s games on the Wii U. Nintendo is actively trying to prevent that from happening with the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has been trying to encourage developers to release their games on the Nintendo Switch and it has been working at least for indie devs. Indie games sell much better on the Nintendo Switch compared to other consoles and to make it easier for them to release games on the Nintendo Switch Nintendo is trying to create an environment where it’s easy to publish your game on the Nintendo Switch.
During the companies shareholder meeting, Nintendo’s Managing Director Tatsumi Kimishima said,
“Offering enjoyable first-party games throughout the world will continue to be one of our
strengths, but increasing the number of people who make games to be played on Nintendo
platforms is also very important for growing our business. That is why we are working to create an
environment that makes development easier, and simplifying the process of publishing games on
Nintendo Switch. This has resulted in a large number of people playing an array of indie games on
Nintendo Switch.”
It will be nice to see more games on the Nintendo Switch but this also creates another problem, really low-quality indie games. Right now on the Nintendo Switch, there are many indie games that are very low quality and they surely wouldn’t have come out on the Nintendo Wii U as they wouldn’t have met Nintendo’s standard.
