The GTX 1170 Should be Able to Play Almost all games at 1440p 60 FPS Ultra

The Nvidia GTX 11 series GPUs are arguably the most hyped up Nvidia GPUs in a long time. Thanks to many rumors indicating that the GTX 1180 is going to be revelutionary for the gaming market as it will have specs higher than the Nvidia GTX Titan XP but cost somewhere around $700 which is good news for gamers as this means 4K 60 FPS Ultra is going to be possible on a GPU that costs less than $1000. We have heard a lot of rumors about the GTX 1180 but most people can’t afford the high-end card so they go and buy the lower end model such as the GTX 1170. Thanks to a bit of math and analysis we have a good idea about how much the GTX 1170 is going to cost and how it’s going to perform.

Performance:

To figure out how the GTX 1170 is going to perform we compared the gaming performance of Nvidia’s last-gen GPUs the GTX 1080 vs 1070, GTX 980 vs 970, and the GTX 780 vs the 770. According to benchmarks done by AnandTech with Ashes of Singularity running at ultra settings 4K with DX 12 the GTX 1070 scored a 41.6 and the GTX 1080 scored a 50.9. This means that the Nvidia GTX 1070 performed 18.27% less than the Nvidia GTX 1080.

Now to compare the Nvidia GTX 970 and the Nvidia GTX 980. According to benchmarks done by YouTuber DudeRandom84 on Ashes of Singularity the GTX 970 got 31.2 FPS while the Nvidia GTX 980 ran the game at 36.2 FPS. That means the 980 performed 13.812% better than the Nvidia GTX 970. Now let’s talk about the GTX 780 and 770. According to GPUboss on Battlefield 4 the 770 ran the game at 57.5 FPS and the 780 ran it at 74 FPS. This means the GTX 780 performed 22% better than the GTX 770. On average the GTX 80 GPUs did 18% better than the GTX 70 GPUs.
So with this data, we can guess how the GTX 1170 is going to perform. With the Witcher 3 running at ultra settings 4K the GTX Titan XP was able to keep the game running above 50 FPS for the whole benchmark. This means that the Nvidia GTX 1180 is likely going to be able to run the Witcher 3 at Ultra settings 4K 60+FPS. Let’s say the GTX 1180 is able to play the Witcher 3 at 65 FPS. 18% of 65 is 11.7 so we can assume that the Nvidia GTX 1170 is going to be able to run the Witcher 3 at 4K ultra 53.3 FPS.

Price:

To be able to guess the price we found out the percentage difference between the prices of the Nvidia GTX 1080 and 1070, GTX 980 and 970, and the 780 and 770. When the GTX 1080 came out it was priced at $549 and the GTX 1070 priced at $379. The GTX 1080 costs approximately 30% more than the GTX 1070. The Nvidia GTX 980 was priced at $549 and the 970 priced at 329. The 980 was priced approximately 40% more than the GTX 970. When the GTX 780 came out it was priced at $649 and the GTX 770 priced at $399. This means the GTX 780 was priced at almost 38% higher than the GTX 770. This means on average there was approximately a 38% price increase between the GTX 70 and GTX 80 GPUs. If the GTX 1180 does cost $700 then we could infer that the GTX 1170 is going to cost around $434.
