Nvidia RTX 2070 VS GTX 1080, Should You Buy The New RTX GPU?
This EVGA RTX 2070 Only Costs $499 But, It’s Still Very Disappointing, Barely Outperforms the GTX 1080
It Seems Like The RTX 2070 Isn’t Going to Save Nvidia
Nvidia RTX hasn’t been anything to write home about. The RTX 2080 costs at least $100 than the GTX 1080 TI and it performs around 5 FPS more. Right now, you can find the GTX 1080 TI for only $600, but if you want to buy an RTX 2080, you will have to spend $800. The high-end RTX GPUs haven’t been doing very well, so gamers have been looking forward to the lower-end RTX GPUs but, it seems like they are going to be very disappointing.
The Specs:
The RTX 2070’s MSRP is $499, but you will have to pay $599 for the founder’s edition card. Thanks to clever money-saving tactics by EVGA, gamers are able to purchase the RTX 2070 for only $499.99. The EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Black Gaming features 1620 MHz Boost Clock, 8GB of VRAM, 448 GB/s Memory Bandwidth, and a power consumption of 175 Watts.
RTX 2070 VS GTX 1080 Benchmarks
With Metro Last Light Redux running at very high preset at 1440p, the GTX 1080 ran the game at an average of 103 FPS and the RTX 2070 runs the game at an average of 112. In Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands very high 1440p, the RTX 2070 ran the game an average of 76 FPS and the GTX 1080 got 70 FPS. Things don’t look too well for RTX in Hitman. With Hitman running at ultra settings, 1440p, the GTX 1080 ran the game at 99 FPS while the RTX 2070 ran Hitman an average of 101 FPS (benchmarks by JayzTwoCents.)
As you can see, things aren’t looking too well for Nvidia. The RTX 2070 costs a bit more than the GTX 1080 but, the benchmarks are very disappointing. Considering that the GTX 1080 is a last-gen GPU, the RTX 2070 doesn’t perform that well.
Should You Buy the RTX 2070?
Well, if you really want to experience real-time ray tracing in your games, but can’t buy an RTX 2080, it might be a good option for you. Of course, there aren’t any ray tracing benchmarks available right now, so we don’t know how it’s going to perform with ray tracing enabled. We know that Dice had to tune down ray tracing in Battlefield V demos so, you might want to wait until ray tracing benchmarks are out.
