Nvidia RTX Benchmarks are Extremely Disappointing, What Will Nvidia Do When Next-Gen 7nm AMD GPU (Navi) is Out?
How Will Nvidia Compete with AMD Navi?
Nvidia RTX was extremly hyped up by rumors before it came out, claiming that RTX will allow gamers to play games at 4k on a budget. We knew that ray tracing is going to be very demanding and hard to run, but we have to wonder if ray tracing enabled GPUs will even be able to run at real-time and at playable frame rates. With AMD Navi right around the corner, one has to wonder, what will Nvidia do when AMD Navi is released. What AMD has to offer?
What’s AMD Navi?
AMD Navi is AMD’s next-gen GPUs, the first 7nm graphics card. According to Gary Shapiro, AMD’s next-gen GPU series are going to catapult gaming forward.
Gary Shapiro said, “In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs, providing the power required to reach technology’s next horizon. During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world’s toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life.”
Thanks to its 7nm size, it is going to be a lot more efficient than current GPUs available in the gaming market. This means with the same amount of power, Navi will perform better than current GPUs available in the gaming market, giving it a lead over Nvidia, especially in the portable gaming market.
Nvidia RTX Benchmarks
The Nvidia RTX 2080 and 2080ti are nothing to special write about. Although they are very powerful, they aren hardly an upgrade over last-gen cards “pascal”. Take the RTX 2080, an $800 GPU. In the latest benchmarks, The RTX 2080 barely outperforms the GTX 1080TI. In most games, the RTX 2080 performs around 5 FPS better than last-gen GTX 1080TI and it costs $200 more. Now, you can see why these graphics cards are so disappointing.
What Will Nvidia Do?
Right now, there isn’t much for Nvidia to do. Maybe like last year, they release a 10% or 15 % upgrades. Just like what they did with 1070ti or the the star war GPU versions . Unless they release a new GPU platform in 2019 (only a few months after RTX) they can’t do anything to compete with AMD Navi. If AMD plays their cards right and releases a competitor for RTX, they can capture a lot of the gaming market from Nvidia.
