The Next-Gen Nvidia GPUs Might Not be for Gaming

Hunters of rumors have been floating around the internet about Nvidia’s next-gen GPUs. Many rumors claiming that it is going to feature specs that are more powerful than the Nvidia Titan XP but priced at $699.99 instead of Titan XP’s $1200 price tag. These rumors claim that the GTX 11 or GTX 20 series GPUs are going to be revolutionary for the gaming market. Unfortunately for gamers, the GTX 11 series GPUs might not even be for gaming instead of a new chip that is specifically designed for mining. 

Since Bitcoin blew up and everyone started mining cryptocurrencies GPUs have been near impossible to find unless you wanted to pay a few hundred Dollars more than the MSRP of the GPU. Because of recent rumors about next-gen Nvidia GPUs coming in a month or two, GPU demand has been going down since miners have stopped buying GPUs. The mining market has become very important to Nvidia and AMD as a large part of the money that they earned came from miners, not gamers. There has been a lot of speculation about GPUs designed specifically for mining but we haven’t gotten any official word on it other than AMD saying that the gaming market is still important to them.

Seeing how miners buy so many GPUs it makes sense from a business standpoint to release GPUs designed for mining. That would be good news for gamers as well as that would mean that miners would no longer buy gaming GPUs. Perhaps Nvidia would release the GTX 11 series GPUs for gamers and GTX 20 series GPUs for miners. 

The Nvidia GTX 1180 is expected to feature  3584 Cuda Cores, 16GB of VRAM, 1600MHz core clock, 1800MHz boost clock, 13 TFLOPS, 16 Gbps Memory Speed, and a TDP of 170 to 200 watts. If these specs are the actual specs of the card then 4K gaming at ultra settings 60 FPS would become relatively cheap.
