Yakuza Dev Says the Nintendo Switch Isn’t the Ideal Platform for Yakuza 1&2
Yakuza Developers Discuses Yakuza 1&2 release on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One
Over the years Nintendo consoles have been associated with kiddie games such as Mario, not games aimed at adults such as Grand Theft Auto V. The Nintendo Switch is the first Nintendo console that is getting a lot of third-party support in recent years. Nintendo’s failed console the Wii U failed because of its lack of third-party support. Most developers that focus on M rated games had no plans to release their games on the Wii U and it was good that they held off. Developers thought that the Nintendo Switch might flop like the Wii U so all triple-As held off from developing games for the Nintendo Switch until they were confident that it isn’t going to fail.
Yakuza’s developer Sega was one of the companies that didn’t hold off to release their game on the Wii U which turned out to be a very bad decision.
In a recent interview, Daisuke Sato said, “To be realistic about what happened, Yakuza 1 & 2 HD for Wii U was a major failure. But we always have the optics to develop the multi platforms as much as possible and we know that it brings an additional audience and that it allows to drain more people. On the other hand, as far as the Switch is concerned, I’m convinced that this is not the platform on which to develop Yakuza games would be ideal. Maybe the public does not expect this kind of game on Switch. Maybe they are used to different games. This may not be the ideal platform. Regarding the Xbox One, we can possibly consider it, knowing Xbox One users may be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. This could potentially be an option. ” (translated by Google Translate)
It seems like Yakuza 1 & 2 HD are not coming out to the Nintendo Switch for a while at least until more rated M games are released on it.
