Sony PS5 VS Xbox 2 (Scarlett) Dates, Is PlayStation 5 Already left behind?

E3 2018 failed to reveal any announcement about Sony’s PS5 console, and fingers are crossed for next year at E3 2019. But it may be coming after the next Xbox.

Industry analyst and long-time hypothetical mouthpiece Michael Pachter has conducted an interview with GamingBolt, sounding off about his predictions for the next generation of consoles.

Pachter, who is an analyst over at Wedbush Securities, believes Microsoft will be next-gen console – supposedly code-named Xbox Scarlett – beating Sony out the gate and getting the drop on the PS5.

“I’m sure Microsoft intends to launch first, and I am equally certain that the new Xbox will be backwards compatible with any Xbox One X software,” Pachter said in the interview.

“I agree that it’s hard for Xbox One X purchasers, but they should know 4 years into a cycle that there is another one coming. My guess is that Microsoft intends to launch in 2020, but if they think Sony is going [to launch the PS5] then, they will launch early.”

PS4 is still exclusives but the console is (very) slowly starting to wind down and retire. E3 2018 failed to reveal any announcement about Sony’s PS5 console, but next year at E3 2019 is the most possible date for it to be revealed. Leaks, specs and even game announcements related to ‘PS5’ will start coming out soon.

What we know now about Playstation5 (PS5):

Q4 2020 is the most possible time for PS5 to come out and be ready to play. Sony releasing the PS5 outside of this Q4 window would be a big surprise, looking at the history of PS release dates. News that suggests sales of the PS4 are slowing does indicate that Sony might want to move slightly faster than we think to introduce the PS5. If Sony uses the APU AMD architecture that are mentioned in the reports in the PS5 (which is likely), there’s a decent chance that the machine will offer backwards compatibility with the PS4. As for offering the ability for the PS5 to play PS3 and older games.

  • The PS5 has been confirmed by Sony, and now PlayStation fans have been given a massive hint about when the PS4 successor might be released.
  • Industry analysts have so far been predicting that the PS5 could have a release date in either 2019 or 2020.
  • Rumors say that PS5 dev kits have already backwards compatibility with the PS4 and potentially will only play digital games.
