Intel Can’t Compete with AMD in the Budget CPU scene

Before AMD released their Ryzen CPUs Intel had a complete monopoly on mid ranged and above CPUs which was bad for gamers as it made progression really slow but when AMD released their Ryzen 7 CPUs it changed everything. Intel was forced to change their plans and releases their 6 core CPUs months sooner than originally planned so they can compete with AMD’s 8 core CPUs. Right now AMD is destroying Intel CPUs in the “budget” CPU scene with their Ryzen 7 1800x which costs only $239.99 but it has 8 cores.

Lets start off with the specs and pricing. The Intel Core i5-8600K CPU is definitely impressive considering that it costs $238.99 on Amazon but it’s not as impressive as the Ryzen 7 1800X which costs $239.99 on Amazon right now. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X features a max turbo frequency of 4.00 GHz, 8 cors/16 threads, 4 MB/16 MB Cache, and it uses the AM4 socket. On the other hand, the Intel I5-8600K features Intel UHD Graphics 630, 6 Cores and 12 Threads,  4.30 GHz max turbo frequency, 9 MB Cache, and it supports Intel Optane Memory. Right off the bat, we could see that the Ryzen 7 1800X has a lower clock speed but it makes up with it with the additional cores which are going to be very useful for multitasking.

Now let’s talk numbers. According to benchmarks done by YouTuber “For Gamers” the Ryzen 7 1800X tends to do a lot better than the I5-8600k in  CPU benchmarks. The first test is rendering a 4K video on Adobe Premiere Pro. It took the Ryzen 7 1800X 390 seconds to complete the render while it took the I5-8600K 520 seconds to render the video. In single thread tests the I5 does a bit better than the 1800X but in multi-thread tests, the 1800X does a lot better than the I5-8600K. In Cinebench R15 Single Thread benchmark the 1800X got a score of 162 and the I5-8600K got a 170. In the multi Thread test, the 1800X got an impressive score of 1619 and the I5-8600K got a score of 950.
