1080p has been the mainstream resolution for most PC gamers as anything higher most gamers will have to play their games at 30 FPS for 1440p or set the graphics settings to medium to high. Most PC gamers would rather play at 1080p 60 FPS ultra rather than 30 FPS 1440p ultra settings. 1440p gaming has been very expensive as you would have needed a system with the GTX 1070 and I7 7700k which will add up to around $1,200, but thanks to Nvidia’s new GPU series you will be able to purchase a GTX 1070 for a very low price.
RTX Causes GPU Price Drop
The Nvidia RTX 2080 and 2080 TI are set to be released on September 20th. Although the RTX 2080 will cost you more than $700, it is still good news for gamers on a budget. Thanks to the RTX 2080 right now you can pick up a Used Asus ROG Strix OC GTX 1070 for only $289.99 from eBay. RTX hasn’t even come out yet, but when it does, GPU prices will likely drop by around $100. Right now the cheapest GTX 1070 on Amazon is $379.99, but if you wait a month or two, you will likely be able to pick it up for around $270 new and approximately $180 used. That means you can build your self a ~$600 system that can run every game at 1440p ultra 60 FPS.

According to Eurogamer’s benchmarks, the GTX 1070 is the perfrect budget GPU for 1440p. When the prices drop around $100, and you can get a new GTX 1070 for only $270 you can build yourself the perfect 1440p system. You can see the benchmarks below:

As you can see, 1440p gaming on a budget is going to be possible in a month or two, and if you turn down the settings to high from ultra, you should get around 60 FPS on all games while running at 1440p.
