Sony Confirms PS5 is in Progress, PlayStation 5 powered by 7nm AMD Navi GPUs (Latest Rumors)

In an interview with the Financial Times, Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has admitted that the company is working on a new console, which is more than likely going to be the PlayStation 5 (although that name has yet to be confirmed). A number of sources have speculated that the PlayStation 4 successor will see the light of day in 2019 or 2020. There are plenty of rumors already about Microsoft’s work on an Xbox product codenamed Scarlett and Nintendo planning a Switch 2; there is no way Sony will want to be left behind in this particular race.

The PS5 is Going to be Very Powerful According to the Latest Rumors

The Sony PlayStation 5 is expected to be very powerful. According to the latest rumors, AMD’s next-gen graphics cards are going to be released in 2019, and Navi is going to be the first 7nm gaming GPU. This might mean that AMD Navi could finally make 4k gaming mainstream. Thanks to Navi, the Sony PlayStation 5 might be the first PlayStation console that is able to play triple-A games at 4k 60 FPS. The PlayStation 5 is going to be very powerful as it is expected to feature AMD Ryzen and AMD Navi.

“At this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware.” Kenichiro Yoshida CEO of Sony

PlayStation 5 Rumored Specs

According to the latest rumors, the PS 5 is going to feature AMD Navi and AMD Ryzen. Thanks to a recent rumor, we know that a person at Sony is working with AMD Ryzen technology

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.

The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”

Of course, a Ryzen CPU is exciting, but the most exciting part of the PS 5 is going to be AMD Navi. According to AMD themselves, “AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs.” Thanks to its 7nm size, AMD Navi is going to be more power efficient than current graphics cards in the gaming market, giving it a big lead especially in the console market.
