Will the PS5 Use AMD’s Next-Gen 7nm GPU and CPU?

Thanks to Sony, we do know that the PS 5 is happening, but we don’t know the specs or the release date. According to the latest rumors, the Sony PlayStation 5 is going to feature AMD’s next-gen 7nm GPU, AMD Navi but will it feature Ryzen 2? 

Sony Confirms PS5

In an interview with the Financial Times, Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has admitted that the company is working on a new console, which is more than likely going to be the PlayStation 5 (although that name has yet to be confirmed). A number of sources have speculated that the PlayStation 4 successor will see the light of day in 2019 or 2020. There are plenty of rumors already about Microsoft’s work on an Xbox product codenamed Scarlett and Nintendo planning a Switch 2; there is no way Sony will want to be left behind in this particular race.

Will the PS 5 Feature AMD Ryzen 2 and Navi?

According to the latest rumors, the PS 5 is going to feature AMD Navi and Ryzen. We don’t know if it will feature next-gen Ryzen or not but it will most likely use AMD Ryzen.

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.”

AMD Navi is likely going to feature in Sony’s next-gen console as suggested by rumors. A combination of AMD Navi and AMD Ryzen will be very powerful as both of these will be the first 7nm CPU and GPU making them more power efficient. 

When is the PS 5 Coming Out?

AMD Navi is going to come out sometime in 2019 as confirmed by AMD’s president and CEO. Gary Shapiro said, ” In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs.” The PS 5 is expected to come out in 2020 and it is going to target the same performance as a $500 PC.
