AMD to Release the Worlds First 7nm CPU Series, Zen 2 in 2019 | Intel Struggling With Next-Gen 10nm CPU
AMD Zen 2 is Coming Out in 2019
As of now, AMD isn’t doing that well in the gaming scene. Even though AMD’s Ryzen CPUs Give gamers 8 cores for a relatively low price, their single core performance isn’t that good when compared to Intel CPUs at the same price point. AMD pulls ahead of Intel in productivity benchmarks but in gaming benchmarks, Intel usualy does a lot better. Although AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 CPUs are coming out in only a year, Intel is having problems with their 10nm CPUs.
Intel is Having Problems With next-gen 10nm Gaming CPUs
Recently rumors started going around the internet claiming that Intel is going to cancel their next-gen 10nm gaming CPUs because of numerous production issues. Intel quickly claimed that these rumors are not true and that they are going to stick with the timeline they revealed at their last earnings report. Intel wrote, “Media reports published today that Intel is ending work on the 10nm process are untrue. We are making good progress on 10nm. Yields are improving consistently with the timeline we shared during our last earnings report.”
Although Intel says that they aren’t going to cancel their next-gen 10nm gaming CPUs, this isn’t good news as it means they are having a lot of issues with their next-gen 10nm CPUs. This could cause delays or supply issues. Supply issues would be bad news for Intel especially if their next-gen 10nm CPUs are released around the same time as 7nm Zen 2.
AMD Zen 2 is Coming Out in 2019
Thanks to AMD’s roadmaps, we know that the 7nm Ryzen 2 CPUs are going to be released in 2019. We also know that AMD’s CEO Lisa Su is going to announce Zen 2 at CES 2019.
“In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs, providing the power required to reach technology’s next horizon. During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world’s toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life.”
Thanks to Zen 2’s 7nm architecture, it will be more power efficient than Intel’s 10nm CPUs giving it a big lead in the portable gaming market. If it is released about the same date as Intel’s 10nm CPUs, AMD could have a big advantage as its likely for Intel to have supply issues.
