Latest Leaks: Could AMD Navi Make Nvidia Plummet?

AMD Navi is just a Few Months Away

Nvidia’s latest GPU series hasn’t been doing that well in the gaming market. RTX costs way too much and doesn’t offer much of a performance gain over last-gen cards around the same price point. Although RTX is one of Nvidia’s most disappointing GPU series, Nvidia hasn’t lost a lot of money due to AMD’s lack of appearance in the highest end of GPUs market. AMD Navi is rumored to be released really soon and if the latest leaks are true, Nvidia doesn’t stand a chance with its current cards.

AMD announcement of 7nm technology movement in 2019 is making a buzz all over the chip market both in cpu and gpu platforms. The fact that many datacenter customers of Xion has moved plans to work with AMD in 2019 for the great EPYC platform that AMD introduced in 2018 and upcoming new EPYC rumored to arrive in 2019, makes you think if AMD is attracting CPU customers from Intel why wouldn’t it do it to Nvidia as well. That plus the disappointment RTX series made in gaming market gives  AMD a head start in 2019. Just look at the CES AMD is the main speaker and being called the leader of 7nm tech, while Nvidia and Intel have not even released their plans on that platform. If everything goes well with releasing the 7nm platforms expected to be introduced in early 2019, Intel and Nvidia both should fear the consequences.

AMD Navi 7nm Rumored Release Date

Lets start off with the rumored release date. AMD Navi is rumored to be released really soon, probably sometime a month or two after January. AMD has said that they are going to announce Navi at CES 2019 on January 9. AMD usualy releases their hardware a little after they announce them so it is very likely to see Navi around January.

AMD to Release Three Navi GPU Series

According to two very credible sources on the internet, we know that AMD is going to release three different Navi GPU series, Navi 10, Navi 12, and Navi 20. The RX 3060 and RX 3070 are rumored to be based on the Navi 12 architecture and the RX 3080 is supposedly going to be based on the Navi 10 architecture. The RX 3060 is rumored to cost $129.99, the RX 3070 is rumored to cost $200, and the RX 3080 is rumored to cost $250. This doesn’t mean that AMD isn’t going to tap into the mid-end gaming market. The RX 3080 is rumored to perform about 15% better than the Vega 64 or the RTX 2070. The RX 3060 is rumored to perform like the RX 580 while the RX 3070 is going to perform like Vega 56.

Nvidia Stocks May Plummet

The RX 3080 is going to cost you $250 and it is going to outperform the Vega 64. This means that the $250 RX 3080 is going to perform like the $500 Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU. The thing is if you enable ray tracing on the RTX 2070, you wouldn’t be able to run games like Battlefield V at 1080p ultra and get 60 FPS. You will have to reduce the settings to medium for 60 FPS. Even if the RTX 2070 was able to run games at ultra 1080p 60 FPS with ray tracing on, it wouldn’t be worth an extra $250.

AMD also has a big advantage over Nvidia in the low-end gaming market thanks to the RX 3060 and RX 3070. The AMD Vega 56 performs like the GTX 1070. Keep in mind that the GTX 1070 costs $420 so, the RX 3070 is going to save you $200. The RX 3060 is probably going to perform like the GTX 1060 6GB and, it’s going to cost you $129.99 while the GTX 1060 6GB costs $250.

Of course, this doesn’t mean Nvidia is going to go bankrupt or something as they make a lot of money through AI and server technology. A big part of Nvidia’s income is from gaming so, they will take a big hit if the Navi rumors are real.
