Xbox 2 and PlayStation 5 to Feature Backwards Compatibility | Latest Rumors
Next-Gen Consoles to Feature Backwards Compatibility
Backwards compatibility is one of those features that’s just convenient and, you can get really cheap games for the latest consoles. A brand new game will cost you at least $30 (unless its an indie) but, you can get triple-A games for last-gen consoles for very low prices. Also, when you upgrade you can still play all of your games on the latest consoles. Backwards compatibility worked great for the Xbox One so, it makes a lot of sense for Sony and Microsoft to implement it on their next-gen consoles.
PS 5 to feature Backwards Compatibility
Sony has recently filed a patent that lets the latest consoles to run games from older consoles. This means that the Sony PS 5 is probably going to be able to run games from all past PlayStation consoles. It’ll take a lot of work for Sony to pull this off. Consoles such as the PS 3 feature custom hardware so, it’s really hard to run their games on new hardware without a lot of issues. That’s why its really hard to emulate PS 3 games on PC without a lot of issues.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Sony is definitely going to use this patent. A lot of times companies file patents that they never use so, this might be the case with this patent. If the PS 5 features backwards compatibility Sony will definitely have an advantage.
Xbox 2 to Feature Backwards Compatibility
The same rumor that leaked a supposed specs list for the next-gen Xbox consoles, also revealed that the Xbox 2 is going to feature backwards compatibility with all past Xbox consoles just like the PS 5. If the PS 5 features full backwards compatibility, Microsoft will probably do the same with the Xbox 2 so that they can compete with Sony.
