Sony PS 5 is Going to Feature AMD Navi and Zen 2

The Sony PlayStation 4 Pro was the first gaming console that was able to play games at 4k and be able to get 60 FPS at 1080p. When the PS 4 came out, gamers were generally pretty excited but, one problem was the fact that the PS 4 didn’t feature backward compatibility when it first came out. According to the latest leaks and rumors, the Sony PlayStation 5 is going to be the perfect PlayStation console which is going to feature cutting edge graphics and full backward compatibility. 

PS 5 to Feature AMD Navi and Zen 2

According to the latest rumors, the Sony PlayStation 5 is going to feature a 7nm AMD Gonzalo GPU which is supposedly going to be based on a costume made Navi architecture. Gaming consoles usualy feature modern GPUs but, the CPUs are very outdated. For example, the PS 4 Pro and Xbox One X feature very outdated CPUs but, they feature powerful and somewhat modern GPUs. This leak and past leaks have both claimed that the PS 5 is going to feature 7nm Zen 2 and 7nm Navi IGPU. 

Thanks to other sources, we know that someone at Sony is working with AMD Ryzen technology. 

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.

The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”

If the PS 5 is able to feature 7nm AMD Zen 2 and Navi, it will probably easily be able to run games at 4k. An AMD Zen 2 CPU means that the PS 5 is going to feature a powerful CPU and a powerful GPU. 

PS 5 to Feature Backwards Compatibility

Sony has recently filed a patent that lets modern consoles run software from older consoles so, this means that the PS 5 may be backward compatible with all past PlayStation consoles. Of course, a patent doesn’t mean that Sony is definitely going to use it. A lot of the time companies file patents but, they never use it. It will take Sony a lot of work to emulate PlayStation consoles that feature a unique architecture such as the PS 3 but if Sony is able to do it, gamers will love the PS 5.
