Just for clarification, this isn’t going to be a rant about the gaming industry and I do not hate the gaming industry, I’m a regular gamer and I enjoy playing video games! I’m just voicing my opinion on what is making Gaming become less interesting. Let’s begin.

Graphics Over Gameplay

Since the current generation of consoles were released (PS4, Xbox One and Switch) all that has been discussed when exclusive, and even multi-platform games are being promoted, is that the games produce “Real Life” graphics and you can see the sweat on the protagonist’s face. What they rarely advertise is the gameplay that the game has to offer. Epic’s “Gears Of War” managed to put together both stunning graphics and excellent gameplay which made this game a must have on the Xbox 360. When I was a youngster, Ocarina of Time was first released. To this day, it is still my favourite video game to date, and that’s because of how deep the game is, not because of the graphics. There are many PS4 exclusive games releasing in 2018 that look amazing, such as Days Gone and Spider-Man.

Minecraft, A sandbox indie game made by Majong has some of the simplest graphics I have seen, as if they were drawn on Microsoft Paint. Yet this game is one of the most diverse and in-depth games I have ever played.

Zombie Life Line

“I don’t care If you only have one arm, Go away!”

“Hmmm, Mediocre Story, Mediocre Gameplay… What can we do to sell this game?”

Zombies. Zombies have become the lifeline for any game that lacks an exciting story. From my recollection, the whole “Zombie” trend came in in Call of Duty: World at War, which was a standard game by its self but with the inclusion of the un-dead, has made the series popular. Many other games have followed this and now I find playing games that have Zombies included in an extra mode, or an unlockable, Just a pain. Games that are dedicated to Zombies i.e. Plants vs Zombies or Left 4 Dead, are enjoyable games within themselves. I am not hating against the whole entire Zombie genre, I am just peeved off at how game’s, that are mediocre at most, are given Five-star status because of the “Zombie Lifeline”

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is impressive, but it is still maturing. I came across an article which explains regarding VR porn – so it isn’t just for games then? My biggest issue with VR is that the wires are very annoying and get in the way. Otherwise, it is impressive technology and the future of VR is sure to be exciting. Sony’s PSVR is one top option and so is the Oculus Rift, both of which have a growing catalogue of titles to enjoy. However, upon release, there was a lack of games available, but at least this is now changing.

Well, I’m going to keep this short as it is my first post
