The AMD Ryzen 3 CPUs Set To Dominate the Entry Level CPU Scene

The entry-level CPUs range is one of the most important price ranges in terms of number of CPUs sold. In gaming, many players are getting into PC gaming every day and instead of buying a high-end CPU they buy a $120 CPU and spend the rest of the money for other more effective components in gaming such as the GPU or ram. Ryzen CPUs usually perform a little bit worse on games when compared to similarly priced Intel CPUs because of faster cache and sharper processing in intel IX-core CPUs.

But AMD Ryzen CPUs have multiple cores and recently leaked 32 core ryzen is making headlines. They tend to perform better in applications that require multi tasking and more threads, but Intel CPUs have fewer cores with more power per core. Even though Intel CPUs have fewer cores they still perform better on most games as most video games aren’t optimized to use more cores. Until AMD released their Ryzen CPU lineup CPUs in most gamer’s systems had a maximum of four cores so there was no need to optimize games to use more than four cores. In a year or two more games will be able to utilize more cores so 8 core CPUs will perform a lot better than 6 core CPUs. Even though Intel CPUs perform a little bit better on games Ryzen CPUs blow them out of the water in CPU benchmarking apps.

RYZEN 3 1300X VS i3-7100

Now let’s talk specs. The RYZEN 3 1300X  uses the AM4 socket, 3.5 GHz base clock, 3.7 GHz boost clock, 4 cores, 8 MB L3 Cache, and a TDP of 65W.  Right now, you can pick it up for $124.99 from Amazon. The Intel Core i3-7100 uses the LGA 1151 Socket, 3.9 GHz boost clock, 2 cores, 3MB L3 Cache, and it has the HD 630 graphics. Right now you can pick it up from Amazon for $114.99. Remember the I3 7100 is a locked CPU so you wouldn’t be able to overclock it.

With Arma 3 running at ultra 1080p a stock 1300X got an average of 54.7 FPS and the i3-7100 got an average of 62.3 FPS. In newer games such as Battlefield 1, the AMD CPU did better with a 108.5 average FPS while the I3 7100 got an average of 102.9 FPS. In the gaming part the I3 does better then the Ryzen CPU for the most part so if you only want to do gaming the I3 is the path to go right now. These benchmarks were done by YouTuber SkuezTech.

The Ryzen CPU does much better at rendering then the I3 7100. In a video render test on Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017 the Ryzen 3 1300x completed the render in 336 seconds while it took the I3-7100 490 seconds.

If you are looking to build a new system the Ryzen 3 1300X is the path to go. Thanks to its extra cores its much better at rendering and multitasking when compared with the I3-7100 and in the near future two cores will likely not be enough for most games. Unless you’re going to upgrade your CPU real soon the Ryzen 3 1300X is the path to go.
