AMD To Capture A Large Part of the PC Gaming Market in 2019| Next-Gen 7nm Navi GPU and 7nm Zen 2 CPU Way Ahead of Competition
AMD is Way Ahead of the Competition
Right now, AMD isn’t doing that well in the gaming market. Intel CPUs feature better single-core performance than AMD Ryzen CPUs so, Intel CPUs generally do better than Ryzen CPUs in gaming benchmarks. Right now, most of the gaming market is controlled by Nvidia and Intel as AMD gaming GPUs aren’t very powerful and their CPUs aren’t able to perform like Intel counterparts. Although Intel and Nvidia control most of the gaming market, AMD might be able to capture a large part of the gaming market thanks to 7nm Navi GPUs and 7nm Zen 2 CPUs.
AMD Navi and Zen 2 CPUs Coming in 2019
According to the latest rumors, AMD is going to release two different AMD Navi GPUs, Navi 12 and Navi 20. AMD Navi 12 is rumored to come out sometime in H1 2019. Navi 12 will be the lower-end GPUs. The higher-end Navi GPUs, Navi 20 is going to be released in 2020 or 2021. AMD Zen 2 CPUs are going to be released sometime in 2019. Zen 2 is going to be the worlds first 7nm CPU. Both AMD Navi and Zen 2 are going to be announced by AMD’s CEO Dr. Lisa Su at CES 2019 on Wednesday, January 9 at 9:00 AM. According to AMD, their next-gen GPU and CPU series are going to “catapult gaming forward.”
“In 2019, AMD will catapult computing, gaming, and visualization technologies forward with the world’s first 7nm high-performance CPUs and GPUs, providing the power required to reach technology’s next horizon. During her CES keynote, Dr. Su and guests will provide a view into the diverse applications for new computing technologies ranging from solving some of the world’s toughest challenges to the future of gaming, entertainment and virtual reality with the potential to redefine modern life.”
AMD is Way Ahead of the Competition
According to the latest rumors, Intel is struggling to release their 10nm CPUs on time. This is good news for AMD as this means they are ahead of Intel in terms of CPU technology. Thanks to its 7nm size, Zen 2 would give AMD an advantage over Intel in the portable gaming market as it is more power efficient than current CPUs in the gaming market. Of course, a smaller CPU die doesn’t mean that AMD will definitely beat Intel but, it does give AMD an advantage.
Nvidia’s latest GPU series, RTX is pretty disappointing. Unfortunatly for Nvidia, RTX GPUs do about 15% better than last-gen GPUs around the same price point. Ray Tracing doesn’t seem like it could do much for Nvidia either as it is pretty much useless. If you want to use ray tracing and run triple-A games such as Battlefield V at ultra 1080p 60 FPS, you’ll need an RTX 2080TI. With Battlefield V running at ultra 1080p raytracing enabled, the game ran at an average of 58 FPS. With ray tracing disabled, Battlefield V ran at an average of 61 FPS at ultra 4k. If AMD Navi performs similair to RTX, AMD can capture a large part of the gaming GPU market from Nvidia.
