Can AMD VEGA 2nd (2018) Regain 3% GPU Market AMD Lost To NVIDIA

2017 was a great come back for AMD to all sorts of markets from Gaming hardware to AI and datacenters. Graphics boards shipments increased 29.1% quarter to quarter, and increased 21.5% year-to-year. In Q3’17, increasing 29.1% sequentially. The markets especially the gaming market show huge growth. The market shares for the desktop discrete GPU suppliers shifted in the quarter by 3 points in Nvidia’s favor. NVIDIA’s Discrete GPU Market Share went up To 72.8% in Q3 2017 while AMD’s Share Dropped From 30% To 27%.

AMD could not actually get NVIDIA in 2017 even with all the good products they produced in 2017. Nvidia is still at the top of high end charts and sold graphics. In gaming the show of power is actually one thing that helps selling the mainstream graphics of that brand. Nvidia kept showing off the power by releasing the titan X or 1080 ti or 1070 ti, the graphics that AMD can not beat, stayed at the top and is still selling popular graphic cards like GTX 1060 from pascal series.

Now both AMD and Nvidia are at the edge of introducing their new platform probably working with 12nm GUP technology. It is actually estimated that AMD is planing to expedite the production of the new Vega 2nd Gen and start very strong in Early 2018 so maybe this year gets to the top of the charts of high-end graphics. Gaming is the game changer for AMD. The PC gaming momentum continues to grow and is the bright spot in the AIB market. The gaming PC market is as vibrant as the stand alone AIB market. While many OEMs are investing in gaming space for many reason like the high demand for gaming PCs. AMD introduced their Threadripper CPU targeted at the high-end gaming market, and Intel also made the I9 and 8th gen I7 new Enthusiast CPUs. But in graphics gaming is everything. Staying in the graphics market for AMD can be very game playing for AMD. In a report Forbs mentioned that by only holding the percentage AMD holds right now in desktop graphics in the AI graphic market they can Increase their Value to 50%. And all this is dependent to releasing a very strong Graphics structure for the next VEGA GPU architecture.
