Demand for Server CPUs May Pass Consumer CPUs Giving AMD Big Advantage Over Intel | 7nm EPYC CPU

Gaming Market Slowly Shifting Towards Streaming

If you follow the news, you have probably heard that a lot of companies are working on game streaming technologies to deliver streaming services with low latency to gamers all around the world. Microsoft is even rumored to release a streaming-only Xbox console codenamed “Lockhart,” and Nvidia and Sony have already released game streaming services. It seems like game streaming is the future which means that AMD has a big advantage over Intel due to 7nm EPYC CPUs.

Demand for Server CPUs to Surpass Consumer CPUs

In about 5 years, gamers will probably play the latest games on a small streaming device attached to their TV or streaming their games on a PC. If gamers are streaming their games on PCs, they wouldn’t need to buy the latest Nvidia GPUs and CPUs as streaming doesn’t take much power. Even a laptop without a dedicated GPU will easily be able to stream the latest and greatest games so, a large part of the CPU market will disappear.

Our traditional consoles may be replaced with game streaming consoles so, there would be no need for high-end and powerful CPUs but instead, the demand for server CPUs will greatly increase. If all of the major gaming companies are using game streaming, they’ll need powerful servers so that users can stream games with minimal issues hence the demand for Server CPUs will surpass consumer CPUs.

AMD has an Advantage Over Intel

While Intel is still stuck on 10nm CPUs, AMD has already moved on to the 7nm architecture. AMD’s EPYC server CPUs control most of the server market right now and when the rumored 7nm next-gen EPYC CPUs are released, Intel wouldn’t stand much of a chance. According to AMD’s CEO, the 7nm EPYC CPUs are going to be very powerful. In a recent interview, Su stated that with EPYC AMD is going to “double the performance per-socket.” This is certainly bad news for Intel as server demands are going up but, AMD has the superior hardware.
