Devs are mostly interested in the Nintendo Switch, PS 4, PC
Xbox One isn’t very interesting to devs
2017 was a very good year for the PS 4 and Nintendo Switch, especially for the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch won product of the year and console of the year, sold 10 million units in only 9 months exceeding Nintendo’s expectations by millions of units, and becoming the fastest selling console of all time in the United States. The Nintendo Switch didn’t get all of the success in 2017. It was a very good year for the PS 4 too. The PS 4 sold very well and reached a sale number that most devs only dream about. Sony’s PlayStation 4 sold 70.6 million units worldwide. That makes it the 9th best selling console of all time. Although the Nintendo Switch doesn’t get as many third party games as the PS 4 developers are very interested in it. Unfortunately for Microsoft, the Xbox One is on the 5th sport above AR headsets and below Smartphones and tablets.
According to GDC right now 59% of developers are interested in PC, 39% of developers are interested in the PS 4, 36% of developers are interested in the Nintendo Switch, 33% of developers are interested in VR, 30% of developers are interested in Smartphones, 28% of developers are interested in the Xbox One, 23% of developers are interested in AR Headsets, 14% of developers are interested in Mac, 10% of developers are interested in Tabletop games, 9% of developers are interested in browser games, 8% of developers are interested in Linux, 4% of developers are interested in Voice Powered Games, 3% of developers are interested in the 3DS, 2% of developers are interested in the PS Vita, 2% of developers are interested in Apple TV, 2% of developers are interested in the Xbox 360, and 1% of developers are interested in the PS 3/Apple Watch/Wii U/ PSP/Wii/Nintendo DS. These results aren’t very good for Microsoft considering that they recently launched the most powerful console of all time the Xbox One X.
