Nvidia is Slow & AMD in process of developing high-end 7nm GPUs for 2020 | Arcturus

AMD may look like has lost focus of GPU market, but CEO Lisa Su reassures everyone that the red team is not giving up on gamers and gaming and high-end section of the gaming GPU market AMD is currently in the process of developing high-performing quality products, and the first cards are expected to hit the market in 2020.

As AMD is just doing better everyday, Morgan Stanley is getting a bit more worried about the market for Nvidia’s gaming graphics cards. The firm’s analyst Joseph Moore lowered his price target to $260 from $273 for Nvidia stock, saying the chipmaker’s latest products may take longer to get traction with gamers.

AMD’s latest financial report showed that its CPU market share is doing better than ever, and this was to be expected. 7 nm chips are coming now, but it seems like the company is not focusing on GPUs that much nowadays, even more so after the GPU-mining crypto market decline. We already know that the 7 nm Instinct GPU will not be marketed as a gaming solution and the Navi models will only go head to head with the GTX 1080 / RTX 2070 cards from Nvidia. However, according to AMD’s CEO Lisa Su, who was recently interviewed by Barron’s, the red team has not lost focus of the high-end gaming GPU market just yet.

Su could be referring to the Arcturus chips that were revealed in some Linux driver code strings a while ago. These GPUs are rumored to be launching in 2020, so they might be designed to compete with whatever Nvidia brings for that time frame.

Su stated that AMD is “making high-performing quality products and building a solid long-term foundation.” The statement is, of course, as vague as it can get, especially at a moment when the company suffered considerable losses on the GPU side, but it may cast a ray of hope for the AMD fans. Since AMD will be the only chip maker to have 7 nm solutions on the PC market in 2019, this could allow the company to shift focus from CPUs to GPUs.
