The next 5 years are the years to expect the most changes in Driving platforms and vehicles. Many of the changes are happening with NVIDIA GPUs and processing units in Volta Graphics. Volta is made to handle AI needs. And when it comes to Self Driving cars they need a lot of power for processing they receive from the world around a car and mind all those data.
NVIDIA unveiled recently that the world’s first artificial intelligence computer designed to drive fully autonomous robotaxis. NVIDIA DRIVE PX Pegasus is able to deliver over 320 trillion operations per second and it is more than 10x the performance of its predecessor, NVIDIA DRIVE PX 2. Out Of the 225 partners developing on the NVIDIA DRIVE PX platform, more than 25 are developing fully autonomous robotaxis using NVIDIA CUDA GPUs.
The basic computational requirements of robotaxis are really enormous and huge as we mentioned, perceiving the world through highest resolutions, 360-degree cameras images, lidars, localizing the vehicle within great accuracy, tracking vehicles all the world and objects around the car, and at the end planning a path to the destination considering all the things you consider when you try driving home or to work. The computing needs of driver-less vehicles are easily 50 to 100 times more intensive than the most advanced intelligent cars of today.
NVIDIA DRIVE PX Made By Volta, Specifications
NVIDIA DRIVE PX Pegasus is basically powered by 4 high-performance AI processors. Its made of two of NVIDIA’s latest Xavier processors featuring an embedded GPU based system on the NVIDIA Volta architecture, with two next-generation discrete GPUs with hardware created for accelerating deep learning and computer vision algorithms. NVIDIA Volta is the next huge Graphics platform expected to come on early 2018. Pegasus will be available to NVIDIA automotive partners in the second half of 2018.
With over 21 billion transistors, Volta is the most powerful GPU architecture
the world has ever seen. It’s made for computational and data science,
pairing NVIDIA CUDA and Tensor Cores to deliver the performance of an
AI supercomputer in a single GPU. Nvidia has Claimed in the website.
