PlayStation 5 To Feature Cutting-Edge AMD Navi and Zen 2 Hardware

The PS 5 is Going to be a Powerful Console

The PS 4 Pro and Xbox One X were the first gaming consoles that were able to play games at true 4k. This was the first time that console gamers were able to play their favorite triple-A game at 60 FPS. The Xbox One X is the first console in a long time that is hard to beat by a $500 gaming PC. The PS 4 Pro and Xbox one X are both held back by their lackluster CPUs but, that isn’t going to happen with the PS 5 as it is rumored to feature AMD Navi and Zen 2. 

PS 5 to Feature AMD Zen 2 and Navi

AMD supposedly plans to reveal a new system-on-a-chip to power the next-generation gaming consoles that is going to use 7nm AMD Zen 2 and AMD Navi. The 7nm AMD APUs are going to give gamers cutting edge graphics that might allow console gamers to finally be able to experience 4k on base consoles. This is the second rumor suggesting that the PS 5 is going to feature AMD Ryzen CPUs. 

 

Someone at PlayStation Working with AMD Ryzen

Thanks to other sources on the internet, we know that someone at PlayStation has been working with AMD Ryzen technology. This rumor combined with the rumor by APISAK means that the PS 5 is probably going to feature 7nm AMD Ryzen and AMD Navi.

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.”

A highly experienced programmer at Sony has been making a lot of commitments to LLVM GitHub which are all related to znver1, the codename for AMD’s first-gen Ryzen CPUs.
