PS 5 Latest Leaks and Rumors | May Feature Ray Tracing, AMD Navi, and Zen 2
PS 5 All Leaks and Rumors
The Sony PlayStation 4 came out all the way back in 2013 and now, 6 years later, a lot of rumors are going around about Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 5 consoles that claim the next-gen PlayStation 5 console is going to feature AMD’s next-gen 7nm CPU and GPU series and it is supposedly going to be powerful enough to run games with ray tracing.
PlayStation 5 May Feature Ray Tracing
Thanks to Daily Star, we know that PlayStation is looking for a Lead Graphics Engineer in the Research & Development team. For those that don’t know, the R&D department is behind the leaked patents that you see sometimes. The official job description reads, “R&D are PlayStation’s technology experts. We develop innovative technologies that push the boundaries of play, helping game developers make the best games on PlayStation by creating a world-class SDK.” When you go to the job role section and check the requirements you’ll notice that developers need experience with “Modern GI/raytracing techniques.” This means that PlayStation is working with Ray Tracing technology which means that the next-gen PlayStation console may feature Ray Tracing technology.
PS 5 Rumored Specs
Thanks to numerous reports, we know that Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 5 consoles may use AMD’s next-gen 7nm Navi and Zen 2 hardware. A recent rumor claims that a principal programmer at Sony is working with AMD Ryzen technology.
“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.
The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”
The rumor above is from Eurogamer but, this rumor is from a somewhat credible source. AMD is rumored to reveal a new system-on-a-chip that’ll supposedly power the next-gen gaming consoles. AMD is supposedly going to release 7nm Zen 2 APUs that’ll feature AMD Navi technology and it’s going to be featured on the Sony PlayStation 5.
PS 5 Release Date
Unfortunatly, right now we don’t have a lot of credible rumors about the Sony PlayStation 5’s release date. All we have is predictions from analysts who claim that the Sony PlayStation 5 is going to be released around 2020, maybe even late 2019. We don’t even have a lot of rumors for the announcement date but, the analysts seem to agree that the PS 5 may be announced in E3 2019.
