AMD Ryzen 3 Chips Get Some Help From Vega Chips

AMD Introduced 2 new CPUs for making very low budget PCs and laptops. 

AMD was not specific on second-generation Ryzen cpus, but it did unveil two new low cost, first-gen options, pair of APUs: The Ryzen 5 2400G and the Ryzen 3 2200G, each with Vega graphics. These chips are set to be out on February 12. These are extremely affordable CPUs the Ryzen 3 2200G is only $100. That gets you 8 Compute Units, while the Ryzen 5 2400G has 11. Vega 56 and 64 are named after the number of compute units they have on each. But hey, even the 2400G is only $170. AMD says the Ryzen 5 2400G offers performance similar to an Nvidia GT 1030 graphics card, so almost all mid range games can be playable at 1080p.

AMD is even enough sure about that to say  “world’s most powerful graphics on a desktop processor.” Which, of course, is accurate. The chips will also be unlocked, like all Ryzens, so owners can overclock them, potentially getting up to 40 percent with the right settings, cooler and a bit of luck.

The new CES shown CPUs from AMD, The Ryzen 5 2400G with four cores, +SMT and run at a base clock of 3.6GHz with a boost clock of 3.9GHz. It’ll feature 11 Vega-based Compute Units and will sell for $169, competing against Intel Core i5-8400 and a GeForce GT 1030. The Ryzen 3 2200G will have four cores, without SMT and run at a base clock of 3.5GHz and a max boost clock of 3.7GHz. It’ll feature 8 CUs and carry a price of $99.

Ryzen 3 mobile chips are made to target $500 laptops

Low budget Laptops will see a pair of new APUs from AMD soon, based on the original Ryzen architecture. These will appear in laptops coming out the first quarter of 2018. But AMD didn’t mention any specific laptop. They’re meant for inexpensive devices. AMD mentioned it expects the first laptops with Ryzen 3 2300U to come in around $500. That’s a good price for a quad-core laptop with Vega graphics. The Ryzen 3 2300U has six compute units and the Ryzen 3 2200U has three. Set to compete with the Intel 8th-gen Core with Radeon RX Vega comes with 20 or 24 compute units. AMD based Laptops with Ryzen 3 mobile will play games smoothly because of the vega, but most titles will need to see settings reduced to low. Here’s the specs on the two chips:
