Nvidia has to do Something Big to Compete With AMD’s 7nm Navi 20 GPUs | Coming 2020

Nvidia RTX Benchmarks are Disappointing

Right now, Nvidia is controlling the high-end gaming GPU market thanks to RTX and the fact that AMD doesn’t really have any high-end gaming video cards. Nvidia dominates most of the gaming GPU market but, thanks to AMD’s next-gen 7nm GPUs Navi and RTX’s disappointing benchmarks, AMD will likely get a piece of the pie.

AMD to Release Two Different Navi GPU Series

According to the latest rumors, AMD is going to release two different AMD Navi GPU series. The lower-end AMD Navi GPUs, Navi 12 is rumored to come out sometime in H1 2019. The higher-end AMD Navi GPUs, Navi 20 is going to be released in sometime between 2020 and 2021. Right now, it’s not clear if AMD has dropped Navi 10 or it’s coming out sometime after 2019. The real competition for Nvidia RTX is going to be Navi 20. So, Nvidia has a little bit more to release something to compete with AMD.

Nvidia RTX Benchmarks are Disappointing

Nvidia’s latest GPU series, RTX hasn’t been that popular amongst gamers. Although the cards are able to run real-time ray tracing in games, they only perform about 15% better than last-gen cards around the same price point. Usualy there is at least a 30% performance increase between last-gen and new cards but that’s not the case with RTX. That is the reason for Nvidia RTX being so disappointing. Ray tracing seemed to be the thing that will save RTX but, it turned out to be a really useless feature. With Battlefield V running at ultra 1080p with ray tracing on, the RTX 2080Ti ran the game at an average of 58 FPS. Battlefield V isn’t the hardest game to run so in a game like the Witcher 3 or GTA V, ray tracing would cause the game to be unplayable.

Nvidia has to do Something to Compete with Navi

AMD Navi is going to be the worlds first 7nm gaming GPU. It’s going to be very power efficient especially when compared to current GPUs available in the gaming market giving it a big lead over Nvidia, especially in the portable gaming market. Nvidia will have to release a new series of GPUs or reduce Nvidia RTX price to compete with Navi.
