Rumors: AMD Navi To Be Released Soon | Should You Wait?

AMD Navi May be Released Sooner Than Expected

AMD has recently announced the worlds first 7nm GPU, Radeon VII. We were expecting to see AMD Navi at CES but, AMD didn’t mention it even once. For a while now, we have known that AMD Navi is going to be released in 2019 and, we have gotten a leaked specs list from credible sources. We don’t have a specific release date for AMD Navi but, the latest leaks show that AMD Navi may be released sooner then we expected.

AMD Navi Spotted in MacOS

In the MacOS Mojave update, code mentioning AMD Navi has been found. A file named “AMDRadeon6000HWServiceskext” lists four different variants of AMD Navi, Navi 16, Navi 12, Navi 10, and Navi 9. According to Videocardz, the number after Navi might represent the number of computing units that is available on each Navi variant. This leak doesn’t exactly match up with past AMD Navi leaks. Since AMD Navi is in the MacOS code, it is likely to come out way sooner than expected. We will probably see Navi around summer time.

Past rumors have claimed that AMD is going to release Navi 12 and Navi 10 in 2019 while the higher-end Navi cards are going to be released in 2020. Past rumors have claimed that RX 3060 and RX 3070 are going to be based on the Navi 12 architecture while the RX 3080 is going to be based on the Navi 10 architecture. The RX 3060 and RX 3070 are supposedly going to cost $129.99 and $200 while the RX 3080 is going to cost you $250. The RX 3080 is supposedly going to perform like the Nvidia RTX 2070, RX 3070 like Vega 56, and RX 3060 like RX 580.

Of course, the AMD Navi GPUs mentioned in MacOS might be exclusively made for Apple or, they might be mobile Navi GPUs. We haven’t really gotten any credible leaks about AMD Navi but, we will probably be able to get our hands on AMD Navi in a few months.

Should You Wait?

Should you wait for AMD Navi? Well, that really depends on you. If you really want a PC right now, then you can go ahead and build a PC right now but, if you are willing to wait for a few more months it’s definitely worth it. AMD Zen 2 is going to be released sometime in the middle of 2019 and it seems like it’s going to blow away the competition so, you should wait. You can potentially get your hands on more powerful hardware for the same price thanks to AMD Navi and AMD Zen 2.
