New GPU market share 2018 (Q2), NVIDIA down, AMD down and Intel GPU shipments were up

The quarterly JPR research report on effects of crypto-mining boom pretty much over, AIB shipments of dedicated graphics cards took a hit with the AIB market down 27.96% compared to the year-ago quarter. At the same time Intel gained market share from both AMD and NVIDIA as its integrated graphics in next-generation CPUs shipped to great success.

NVIDIA GPU shipments were down 7%, AMD GPU shipments were down 12.3% and Intel GPU shipments were up 3%

AMD was affected more, vega was an absolute killer in mining. At the same time, we have seen stagnation in the GPU market due to lack of demand, no competition and no new products. Q3 2018 will be different for NVIDIA, as they start shipping brand new lineup of Turing which should allow it to clawback market share from both AMD and Intel. Since AMD has no high-end GPU planned to go out anytime soon, at leat nothing has been mentioned. PC market increased almost 2% year over year. JPR research report:

  • AMD’s overall unit shipments decreased -12.28% quarter-to-quarter, Intel’s total shipments increased 2.62% from last quarter, and Nvidia’s decreased -7.49%.
  • The attach rate of GPUs (includes integrated and discrete GPUs) to PCs for the quarter was 135% which was down -4.61% from last quarter.
  • Discrete GPUs were in 32.83% of PCs, down -6.28%.
  • The overall PC market increased 1.9% quarter-to-quarter and increased 2.04% year-to-year.
  • Desktop graphics add-in boards (AIBs) that use discrete GPUs decreased -27.96% from last quarter.
  • Q2’18 saw a no change in tablet shipments from last quarter.
