PUBG Overtakes Fortnite on PC but Fortnite Top Grossing on Console, Doesn’t make Mobile top 10
Fortnite Battle Royal is Doing Really Well Across all Platforms but PUBG is Doing Better on PC and Neither are Doing Well in the Mobile Market
Bluehole’s PlayUnknowns Battlegrounds was the game that jump-started the battle royal genre. When PUBG blew up every developer and publisher wanted to jump onto the battle royal genre with their own take on it. Rockstar released a limited time mode that was similair to battle royal for GTA Online and both EA and Activision announced that their future FPS games Battlefield V and Black Ops IIII are going to feature some sort of a battle royal mode. Since Fortnite Battle Royal came out Blueholes has been struggling to not lose players to Fortnite at least on PC. On the Xbox One PUBG has already lost because of its performance issues and the fact that it costs $30. According to a recent survey, Fortnite Battle Royal hasn’t been doing really well on the PC but on the console market, it is the top grossing video game. On the Mobile market, neither PUBG nor Fortnite made the top 10.
According to data by SuperData on the PC market, PUBG was the third top-grossing PC game while Fortnite Battle Royal was at the number 7 spot. League of Legends topped the PC market in June. Most of the money PUBG made was because of the recent Steam Sale. In the Steam Sale, PUBG’s price was reduced to $19.99 and because of that, it sold 4.7 million copies. Considering that Fortnite Battel Royal is a free to play it sold very well as Epic Games only makes money from microtransactions on Fortnite Battle Royal.
On the console side of things, Fortnite Battle Royal was able to make the number 1 spot! Fortnite Battle Royal was able to sell so many cosmetic items that it got to the #1 grossing console game. It was followed by FIFA 18 and Call of Duty WWII at the #2 and #3 spot. The Crew 2 didn’t do too impressive but it did manage to sell 700k copies across the console and PC which placed it in the #4 spot. On the console market, the top grossing games were free to play mobile games. Honour of Kings made it to the #1 spot, QQ Speed #2, and Pokemon Go at the #3 spot. Fortnite and PUBG weren’t able to make it to the top 10.
Right now Fortnite Battle Royal isn’t out on Android but if it is released on there, Fortnite will likely make it to the top 10 grossing games in the mobile market as well. According to a recent data mine leak, Fortnite is going to be released sometime during Season 5 on Android.
