Sony’s Vaio Laptop brand was sold to the Japan Industrial Partners company in 2014 so thats why you dont see the name of sony beside the Vaio laptops anymore. The Vaio S11 and S13 ultrabooks are going to get a i7-8550U or the i5-8250U CPUs for the new version upgrades. RAM memory goes up to 8 / 16 GB LPDDR3, while NVMe SSD with capacities up to 1 TB and SATA SSDs up to 256 GB are in the list of upgrades as well. Pre-orders will be opened later this month for a price tag around US$1365.

Vaio Laptop is Adding Intel Core gen 8 CPUs To Its Ultrabook Notebooks

The Vaio is not as popular as it once was in 2000s, as JIP is now focusing mostly on the Japanese market not international market. Companies like asus, lenovo, msi and so on all started talking about putting new intel 8th gen cpus when Intel first launched its gen 8 Kaby Lake Refresh mobile CPUs , but Vaio took its time and did not jump into it. It does not seem likely to change anything though. Intel is still being considered as the main CPU producer and even meltdown and spectre could not bring it down, but they did make some good opportunities for AMD.

The new refresh  of the ultrabooks offer sizes are under 14-inch, with the S11 that has an 11.6-inch 1080p screen and the S13 a 13.3-inch. Both will possibly be powered either by the i7-8550U CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz, or the i5-8250U clocked at 1.6 GHz. The GPU is limited to Intel’s UHD 620, RAM goes up to 8 GB / 16 GB of LPDDR3. The storage are  NVMe + SATA SSD combos, with NVMe SSD capacities as high as 1 TB and SATA SSD capacities up to 256 GB. Standard features that will also be: 33 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and VGA outputs, SD card reader, WiFi + BT 4.1, GbE jack, Optional 4G LTE modem with GPS.  Bttery life for the 11-inch model is up to 15 h, whereas the 13-inch variant can last up to 12 h. Both models have a 0.7-inch thickness and weigh 1.9 lbs (S11) / 2.4 lbs (S13). Pre-orders will be opened later this month and the prices are expected to start at around US$1365.
